How to properly clean your mobile charging port
dust
Dust is one of the most common causes of charging problems. Other dirt collects in the charging port, clogging the battery connectors. When the charging cable is inserted, dust prevents a good electrical connection, so no power is directed to the battery.
If you don’t stop checking the charging indicator every time you plug in, you won’t know there’s a problem until you try to use your phone the next time, eventually the battery becomes completely empty and you can’t recharge it at all.
It’s very easy to tell if you have a dust problem – just highlight the port where the cable connects and take a look. If you can’t see the charging metal contacts, or lint and dust are clearly visible, you need to clean the port.
How to clean the charging port – compressed air
Professional phone repair engineers consider pneumatic to remove dust from electronic components.
To use, just point the nozzle at the charging port and give the phones a good push which eventually loosens the dust enough for it to fall off.
Warning: Do not blow into the port with your mouth. Unlike compressed air, your breath contains water vapor that can damage the sensitive electronics inside your phone. Water damage repair is much more expensive than a can of compressed air.
How to clean your charging port – a fine toothpick
Another option is to use a toothpick to gently scrape the inside of the port. Wipe a toothpick around the inside of the port to loosen any dust, then shake the phone until it falls off.
Take your time and be as gentle as possible – so you don’t damage the port (or anything else).
Warning : You should not use anything but toothpicks for this function. Staples, paper clips, needles, etc. may all serve the same purpose, but since they are metallic, you risk creating a short circuit that can damage the phone.
